The Key Laboratory for Underground Space Energy Storage of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, led by Shendong Coal, was officially approved. It was the first provincial key laboratory approved by Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in this field, marking another important breakthrough for Shendong in in-depth advancement of energy technology innovation.

The approval of the laboratory was a key measure for Shendong to actively respond to the national “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality” strategic goals and support Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in building an important national energy and strategic resource base. The laboratory Focuses on the cutting-edge field of underground space energy storage, it systematically carried out scientific and technological research in three major directions, covering gravity energy storage, compressed air energy storage and pumped storage. It committed to building a complete technological research and development and engineering application system from five dimensions, including resource exploration and evaluation, space stability analysis and multi-field coupling modeling. It strived to break through key technical bottlenecks restricting large-scale and long-duration energy storage in China. With these efforts, it provided full-chain technical support for building a new energy system and safeguarding national energy security.

The construction and operation of the laboratory will strongly promote the resource-based and green utilization of abandoned mine spaces in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and even the whole country. It will not only open up a new path for the transformation, upgrading and sustainable development of traditional energy bases, but also lay a solid foundation for Shendong to enhance its core technological competitiveness and lead industrial scientific and technological progress. Shendong will continue to promote the laboratory construction with high standards, pool innovative resources, accelerate the transformation of achievements, and strive to build it into a national-level scientific and technological innovation platform serving regional development strategies and supporting the high-quality development of the energy industry.
